About The Book

SOMEONE LIKE ME is the true story of a young girl born into a poor, dysfunctional family headed up by an alcoholic father and an unstable mother. Jane longs for escape until the age of fourteen when she takes drastic measures to make it happen.

Less than two years later, she meets a rich and charming serviceman who sweeps her off her feet with promises that would turn any young girl’s head.  Before rushing her into a hasty marriage, he reveals himself to be jealous, possessive, explosive and dishonest.  But young Jane—worldly unwise and lacking in self-worth—fails to recognize the fervently waving red flags. She is whisked far away from everything familiar only to discover that Jerry’s wealth and promises were delusional fantasies and finds herself trapped in a nightmarish existence that diminishes the wretchedness of her childhood.

After a chance hearing and acceptance of the gospel of Christ, Jane begins a spiritual journey that is greatly hindered by Jerry’s atheistic inclinations and aversion to all things Christian—until he realizes its value to his own advantage.

Though hard to put down, SOMEONE LIKE ME is difficult to read except for the moments of subtle humor to out-loud laughter that reveal a side to Jane that was beneficial to her mental and emotional survival.

About the author

Dee Taft, a wife, mother and grandmother, is retired and lives with her husband, Harry Taft, in Rome, GA. Harry, also retired, is a lay preacher and conducts five monthly Bible Studies in local assisted living facilities.

Since childhood, Dee has had a burning desire to write and a God-given talent for stringing words together in an absorbing and entertaining way.  After raising a family, she pursued her dream by burying herself in books and studies dedicated to the craft. As secretary of her church, she practiced on weekly bulletins and newsletters from which she received much positive feedback. In time, she began transcribing messages for various clergymen, writing Gospel tracts and ghost writing.  Short stories followed and great encouragement came when a few were picked up for publication. A genealogy hobbyist, she also devotes much time to researching and preserving family history.
